A couple of basics

I will make a few assumptions when putting this stuff together, the main one being that most of you will only be spending 3/4 days in the city. So let’s get a few basics sorted.

You have probably heard that Barcelona is terrible for yer robbing and pickpocketing, I’d love to say that is bullshit but I’d be lying, it is a huge problem. That said, if you keep your wits about you and not be a total dick then your trip should pass off without incident. Simple precautions, don’t carry loads of money, cards, valuables etc. Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. I have met people who have been robbed who whine and moan but when asked if they’d have done the same thing in their home town have replied “don’t be so fucking stupid” or suchlike.

It is one of the best things about this city is that it sucks you in,relaxes you and makes you feel safe, the down side is that this feeling can make you drop your guard and make you a prime target for yer robbers.

The Jimbo advice is simply..”Don’t be a wee fanny”

With regards to actually seeing the city, decide what you really want to see. If you have a couple of places on the list then public transport fits the bill. Buy a T10 from the metro station for around 8 euro and this gives you 10 journeys on the excellent public transport system. If you want to cram as many sights in as possible you really can’t go wrong with the Tourist bus. A two-day ticket will ensure you see all the stuff your mates will ask you about when you get home

I’ll be covering more stuff over the coming weeks re. places to stay etc. but I thought it was wise to address the “will I get robbed and bumraped?” issue early on.

In case you haven’t understood the blog so far the answers are, “not if you use the head” and “only if you want to”

Inspired, Jim. This place looks quality. The dulce de leche postre far surpasses yer usual flan nonsense that these places serve up. Well in.

Needs moar Ham. Needs moar swearrry.
Actually, you’re quite the writer, innit. Good stuff.

Being a veteran of getting robbed while up Barcelona, I can confirm that keeping your wits about you would be a massive help on the keeping all your possessions front.

And another thing – should some feckin ersepiece offer you a Nokia N-Gage phone, a pair of blue Timbies (they were “in” at the time) and / or a ticket for the Celtic – Barca game in 2004’s UEFA Cup, hoof them right in the clangers for me, eh? Cheers.
